Steve Cook grew up with vinyl. The music of The Who, The Jam and The Clash – the late 70′s was a great time for kids who loved rock guitars.

A guitarist in a number of bands during the 90′s, Steve is now the MD of Seeker and as a photographer he gets to capture some of his heroes in the images that he loved so much growing up, devouring the record covers.

This book includes hots of some of Steve’s heroes, and no doubt, some of yours.

Includes images of:

The Who

Oasis

Babyshambles

The Stereophonics

Peter Doherty

Billy Bragg

Nine Below Zero

The Supernovas

Natty

The Aggrolites

I’ve been a professional photographer for more than a decade and during that time I have taken hundreds of thousands of images, probably even into the millions.

So when I’m asked which is my favourite image from all of the shots I’ve taken it’s very difficult to pick out just one image.

Would it be a shot from the wedding of Strictly Come Dancing winner Karen Hardy on the beautiful Greek island of Santorini? Maybe a black and white image of a newborn baby or pregnant mother?

Some of the aerial photography that I’ve done of places like Corfe Castle? Or fashion shoots with top London models?

Perhaps it was Wimborne Town lifting the Wessex League Cup with my logo emblazoned across the front of their shirts?

No, after much deliberation I had to go for a shot I took at rehearsals for a Teenage Cancer Trust gig with Peter Doherty and Roger Daltrey.

I’ve been a Who fan since I was 12 and a school friend introduced me to Quadrophenia, that was the day I became a Mod and it hasn’t gone away since.

My business is named after a song by The Who – The Seeker, and I’ve worked closely with Peter and Babyshambles on a number of occasions.

So to be stood on stage with Roger Daltrey, during soundcheck whilst he and Babyshambles ran through the ten Who songs they would play together was a great experience.

Should I quit there and then? Would anything ever top being in that situation? Who knows.

I just know that this is the photo that’s closest to my desk, alongside a framed Wimborne Town shirt, complete with the Seeker Photography logo and the signatures of Roger, Peter and the rest of the band – sometimes I think I’ve got the best job in the world!

There’s lots of musicians that are called legends but Jerry Dammers (The Specials, Special AKA) and Rico Rodriguez (Jamaican Ska trombonist) are the real deal!

Much of the audience at Poole’s Lighthouse where a little unsure of what to expect from Jerry Dammers’ Spatial AKA Orchestra, a 20-odd piece ensemble playing a fusion of Ska & Jazz while paying homage to Sun Ra – an eclectic, unorthodox jazz musician whose career spanned the 50′s to the 90′s.

Dammers also threw in a couple of reworkings of his own back catalogue, notably ‘Ghost Town’ and ‘International Jet Set’ – now renamed ‘Intergalactic Jet Set’.

This was the perfect progression from 2Tone, growing from maturity and outside influences and you could see at once why the idea of a Specials reunion without a reworking of the songs was never going to work for Jerry Dammers.

This year’s Dorset Unsigned Music Awards is now open for entry and yet again we have put up one of the prizes for the winners.

Last year the quality was so good that we selected two bands to receive a photoshoot – The Goodfoot and The Douglas Firs.

We shot The Goodfoot towards the end of last year in the funky lounge setting of 1812 bar in Bournemouth as it suited their Jazz Funk image.

For the Douglas Firs we went back to nature with a more folky feel to the images.

If you get the chance check out both of these bands, they’re well worth an evening out.

Seeker Publishing are a new book publisher set up to help bring artists and photographers work to a wider audience.

Our first publication is a collection of Rock n Roll images by Steve Cook.

50 MILLION FABLES by STEVE COOK

Steve Cook grew up with vinyl.

The music of The Who, The Jam and The Clash – the late 70′s was a great time for kids who loved rock guitars.

A guitarist in a number of bands during the 90′s and a recognised photographer he now gets to capture some of his heroes in the images that he loved so much growing up, devouring the record covers.

In this age of instant downloads it’s more important than ever to capture these heroes for reasons other than the record cover.

Here are some of Steve’s heroes, and no doubt, some of yours.

Includes images of:

The Who

Oasis

Babyshambles

The Stereophonics

Peter Doherty

Billy Bragg
